For nine centuries, this masterpiece of Hispano-Moorish art has dominated the Red City at a height of 70 meters. Built in the 12th century by the Almohads, its perfectly proportioned minaret inspired Seville's Giralda and Rabat's Hassan Tower. Each face features a unique decorative pattern of carved stucco, floral motifs, ceramic tiles, and delicate calligraphy. The mosque takes its name from the 200 booksellers who set up market around it in the 12th century. The four gilded copper spheres crowning the spire sparkle above the surrounding gardens.
