Built in the 12th century under the Almoravid dynasty, Bab Doukkala is one of the oldest and most massive gates in Marrakech's ramparts. Flanked by two heavy square towers made of rammed earth, this bent-pass fortified portal originally controlled northwestern access toward the fertile Doukkala region. Today, it anchors a bustling neighborhood known for its vibrant street market, historic mosque, and transportation hub.
